The ruling Congress party in Andhra Pradesh may be confident of winning most of the 18 assembly seats that went to polls Tuesday but its MP, L. Rajagopal, has forecast a clean sweep by YSR Congress Party (YSRCP).
The member of parliament (MP), known for releasing his own exit polls, believes YSRCP would win 12 to 16 seats, Congress one to three seats and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) two.
Rajagopal, who campaigned for his party in several constituencies, told reporters in Delhi that Telangana Rashtra Samithi(TRS) would win Parkala, the only assembly seat in Telangana that went to polls.
The MP from Vijayawada said he would make his prediction about Nellore Lok Sabha seat June 14, a day before the counting of votes.
By-polls to a Lok Sabha seat and 18 assembly seats were held Tuesday while the counting of votes will be taken up Friday.
Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, state Congress chief Botsa Satyanarayana and central ministers Ghulam Nabi Azad and Vaylar Ravi, during the campaigning, had exuded confidence that Congress would win majority of the seats.
However, Rajagopal said YSRCP had managed to garner public sympathy after the arrst of party leader Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy in illegal assets case.
He alleged that Jagan’s mother Vijayamma and sister Sharmila misled thepeople by projecting him as a victim. He said Jagan would not be able tomislead the people in any election in future.
